Which extension cable is right for my application?
Depending on the intended use, a power cable requires certain extras such as a CEE plug connection, FI protection and the appropriate IP protection class. The cable length, from 5 to 50 meters, should also be carefully considered. For indoor use, 1 to 5 meters is often sufficient, while outdoor use may require 10 meters or more. A 16 amp cable at 230 volts delivers up to 3680 watts, so it is important to check the overall power of the connected devices.
Indoor cables do not require special protection, but for outdoor use IP44 is essential. Choose the number of sockets according to your devices and pay attention to safety features such as overload protection and portable residual current protective device PRCD-S+ (Portable Residual Current Protective Device). H05VV-F cables are suitable for indoor use, H07RN-F cables for outdoor use, with a cross section of 1.5mm² or 16mm² depending on the load. Flexible cables are suitable for movable applications, rigid ones for fixed installations. In special cases such as construction sites, particularly robust cables are necessary.
